Utensils: how to make cooking easier

Wooden spoons and iron pot.

A kitchen is not complete until you have the tools designed to help in the cooking process. Spoons, spatulas, pots, pans, whisks, knives, you name it, all these utensils are there to ease the actions you undertake in transforming produce into a dish fit to be consumed.

It can be overwhelming to decide from all the options out there, what is it that we need for our cooking enterprises. There are lots of possibilities ranging between professional or amateur alternatives; it mainly depends on if you have an unlimited or limited budget. But most people will agree that what you need is a  “basic” kit that includes pans, pots, wooden spoons, knives, a grater, a chopping board, a whisk, a pair of tongs, a ladle and a peeler.

Many of the kitchen utensils have had little to no changes since they were designed, and one of the reasons for them to have survived is because they function to ease a task for us. Probably, until this moment, there is no better alternative designed in order to have it replaced.

For me, this is the case of the wooden spoon, my favorite utensil. On one hand, you can stir anything without letting marks on the surface, it doesn’t influence the taste of the dish, it can resist high temperatures and it has an appealing form. Do you have a favorite utensil, which one is it?
