Take a bite

Baking your own bread, not so easy!

Very likely we are the only species that talks, discuss, speak about the taste of the food we eat. We debate if it has the right amount of spice, if the flavor is right, if it reminds us of something or someone. We can actually argue if we added this or that ingredient, if it still would count as an authentic account of a recipe. Because for some of us what we eat has a meaning, culturally or otherwise, that helps us belong.

With the pandemic, many our habits changed, as I already wrote in another post. What will remain when we reach the “new normality”? For some of us, these past months made us aware we should enjoy the little things in life. For me, it can be a plate of pancakes or an array of enchiladas, some flowers blooming or just somebody’s voice.

It has additionally been a time of discovery and experiments. I thought I would give ingredients that I had never sampled before a chance. Consequently, I have been testing dishes that I considered to be difficult to prepare, baked without almost no experience. Some things turned ok, others were an absolute disaster, and one or two were genuinely good. So, try being open to new experiences and flavors, the results can surprise you and make your taste buds dance. Do me a favor, take a bite and enjoy!
