In my prior post Food as Art, I was reflecting on the relationship between artists, artwork and edibles as inspiration or material. Today I want to go into the commercial aspect of food and arts: food photography.
There are two mayor areas in food photography, the one being the professional one in which product shots are made with food as the main theme; the other one, the amateur take on it. Each area fulfills a need in the food industry. That being said, food photography in general, helps improve branding, increase sales and attract new customers. It could work for a restaurant, a delivery service, a Chef, and so on.
For food photography to achieve its goal, one picture has to capture the attention of possible consumers and present them with a unique perspective. One shot has to provide an impression, make you want to try the dish. Just from seeing it, your mouth starts to water… If this is accomplished, you have an image that works, it does not matter who took it or if it was a snapshot from a cellphone. Do you agree with me?
