Special occasions food

Sitting together….

We often celebrate special occasions with food and beverages. I wonder why that is… In searching for an answer, let’s start with a definition of special occasions: these are dates or events that are important for a group of people, like a birthday, a wedding anniversary, a religious celebration, anything that is deemed important. An event that we want to remember and make particular and distinct. For that purpose, we prepare certain foods, and we sit together to eat and to strengthen our bonds as family and as a community.

The food offered at a celebration, I think, serves as a gesture, meaning that someone is welcome to share and participate. It is also a sign of showing that we care for the ones attending. Some cultures have specific food to accompany specific commemorations. For example, in Mexico, after a christening, there will be a brunch in which tamales -corn dough wrapped in corn husk filled with savory or sweet fillings, then steamed to cook- and hot chocolate are served. Have you, dear reader, an example for me?
